PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Executive Manager: Mineralogy is responsible for ensuring that the Division is managed in a manner that delivers sustainably on its mandate, including strategic and operational plans:
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
To lead the Division technically including the development of the Division’s RDI strategy.
To ensure the alignment of the Discipline strategy and plans with those of Mintek.
To maintain a balanced Discipline RDI portfolio
Secure the Discipline Budget.
To prepare operational and business plans for the Discipline and integrate them into the plans for the Cluster.
Commercialisation and technology transfer management for the Discipline.
Ensure that there is an adequate pipeline of commercial and business leads to ensure that the Discipline can deliver on its targets.
To ensure the optimal use of resources within the Discipline and shared services within the Cluster and within other Clusters.
To lead stakeholder engagements with industry, HEI’s, public sector and international entities.
To be accountable for the Discipline sustainability, including financial, human resources, SHEQ, risks and delivery.
To be accountable for the impact of the Discipline in terms of Mintek’s mandate.
Ensure that the Discipline is adequately resourced, with a particular focus on SET staff and resources. Also ensuring succession planning.
To be accountable for the performance and management of the Discipline.
To ensure that the internal state grant funding is effectively invested and leveraged to maximise impact in terms of strategic goals, leveraging of funding and commercial impact
QUALIFICATION AND JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
A minimum of Masters Qualification (Geology or equivalent) is required.
PhD will be ideal.
Professional Registration with SANASP and GSSA or SAIMM
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Comminution and Physical Separation projects is a necessity.
At least 10 years’ experience in a research or knowledge based organisations undertaking research in the Discipline of which 5 years must be in a research management position.
Experience in financial, HR, business processes, marketing, operations and business development.
Experience in business engagements and commercialisation activities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Excellent numerical and quantitative skill
Good management and leadership skills
Ability to multi-task
Ability to lead by example
Ability to cope in a stressful and demanding environment
Willing to travel locally and internationally.
